St.
Gerard’s Church in Anguilla is beloved by parishioners and visitors alike.
As our Church, it is the focal point of God’s presence with us.
As a building, it is a tourist attraction. Our resident community has grown (207 % from 1992-2001
according to the census figures) and the number of visitors coming to Mass on
Sunday keeps increasing with the result that there is a pressing need for a
larger church. Serious problems involving deterioration of the structure as
well, make it necessary to build a completely new structure.
There was a strong consensus that the new St.
Gerard’s Church incorporate the façade and style of our present church.
An initial three dimensional model was built to give people a feel of both the
interior and exterior. (See picture of the model below.) The
architects design plans have been completed. (See pictures of the floor
plan and exterior below). The estimated cost is in the area of
$US 600,000.
It
would take “donkey years” for the resident community alone to raise the
necessary funds. For that reason we
are appealing to the generosity of all who have a special devotion to St.
Gerard, of all who have visited Anguilla, of the families and friends of St.
Gerard’s, of your home parish, and of those who in one way or another benefit
from the tourism industry on this beautiful island of peace and tranquility.

living temple of God.
